An even more convincing demonstration that the US "mainstream" is moving on from crude racism is the fact that Oprah is the richest woman in that country, on the strength of her public persona.

Actually Obama w0uldn't be where he is without her endorsement (and she probablymade him some fat c ampaign donations); however let's not forget that both of them are largely media creations, that the media are very elite-owned, and that it suits the interests of that elite to soothe racial tensions for the sake of business as usual.

There have been revelations about Joe' status as a plumber and it turns out he isn't actually registered or qualified to be a professional pipe man.

Notwithstanding that, I think Joe's questions were well measured and he tackled Obama on an issue of public policy rather than a cultural difference. It didn't matter that one was Ivy League and the other coaches Little League, the fact is that they were two men discussing in an honest and sincere way about how best to govern.

For a country with such a deep history of racial exploitation this is a remarkable feat. You really have to take a step back and reflect on what this means for the state of America at the moment. This little interaction is a jab in the face of racists everywhere. The knock-out punch is coming 4th November.
