Is Jacob Zuma going to be a lucky president?
Business day reports:
RAIN, seen as a blessing in many cultures, seems to be a companion for President Jacob Zuma every time he makes a big move.
In 2007 it rained buckets at the African National Congress’s Polokwane conference when Zuma unseated former president Thabo Mbeki as party chief . Last month it poured when Zuma was inaugurated at the Union Buildings, sending guests scurrying for cover under black umbrellas.
Yesterday was no different when Zuma delivered his maiden state of the nation address in a wet and rainy Cape Town.
What with the global economic downturn and its negative effect on SA, the president would do well to get all the blessings he can as he steers the government through its first recession in 17 years.
Johannes Kerkorrel had a song called ‘n Droe wit seisoen (A dry white season). A reference to PW’s 80′s South Africa. It ends with the lines, Reen kom was alles weg hier. An appeal for the rain to come and wash all South Africa troubles away.

Hi Daniel. That piece is sure to cause some controversy. Thanks for pointing me at it.
